2021-03-07 Service Outage (Stuck in welcome flow)

Description

I just installed Mailspring on Fedora 33 and am stuck in the welcome flow. After the 3rd tip it briefly shows a small loading indicator and then just a white screen. The back button at the top-left is still working, so it didn’t crash and I can go back and try again, but I cannot progress past this point.

To Reproduce…

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Start fresh Mailspring installation
  2. Click “First steps” (I presume that’s what it says in English)
  3. Click “Next” three times
  4. End up at a white screen

Expected Behavior

It should allow me to finish the welcome flow.

Setup

  • Linux 5.10.22-200.fc33.x86_64
  • Fedora 33, GNOME Shell 3.38.3 under Wayland
  • Installed using the RPM from GitHub
  • Mailspring 1.8.0-8983dca2

Additional Context

Log output

{"error":null}

I had a quick look at the source code, and it seems to try to load https://id.getmailspring.com/onboarding. This fails with a 503 error when I load the same URL in the browser. I guess it’s a server issue?

It might be! I’ll try to bring this to Ben’s attention.

Seems to be fixed, I was able to complete the onboarding.

Excellent! There were indeed some problems with the server, which @bengotow resolved.
