I tried adding a template with 2 screenshots (macos version), from the template settings it just resets and drops the entire template. I “forced saved it” through a draft.
The template created when loaded does not show any images, furthermore if i try to select it through the template settings it just won’t open at all. I can’t even select it for deletion.
Has anybody else experience this? Could be because my screenshots are too big? Is there a fix?
Edit: Apparently copy pasting the draft to new draft it also does not work with the images failing.
It’s not the size. A pasted screenshot isn’t part of the message HTML. When you paste an image into the composer, Mailspring attaches it to the draft as a file and the body just holds a cid: reference to that attachment. Templates are plain HTML files (Preferences > Templates > Show Templates Folder… will show you), so when a draft is saved as a template the HTML is written out but the attachment isn’t, and a cid: reference with no file behind it is what breaks the template when it’s loaded back.
The workaround is to use images that live at a URL: put the screenshots somewhere web-accessible and reference them as <img src="https://…"> in the template’s HTML file in that folder. The image then renders for you and for recipients, and the template stays intact. I’d like templates to carry attachments eventually, but that’s what works today.
