When selecting bulk messages in the combined inbox, all mail, or spam to mark as read or archived, the process will appear to work, and in a few minutes most if not all of the emails will reappear, thus not working. In my case, all email accounts are paid Google business email accounts. I am on a Mac with the following specs, 2016 15 inch MacBook Pro, with 16 GB of Ram, and 2.9 GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, operating with macOS Monterey version 12.7.1, using Mailspring Version 1.13.1 (1.13.1).
