I am new to MailSpring but not new to Email, was looking for a free email client and came across, mailspring it looks like a nice and simple program but I tried to download my gmail account as its kinda full.
but today after setting it up, Mail Spring downloaded roughly around 1100 emails and no older email, sync now doesn’t downloads older emails.
however email arriving on those gmail ID today do gets downloaded, but it won’t go beyond 1100 in fecthing email.
Pop3 is used
pop3 is enabled for all emails on gmail settings.
There’s no cap on how much of a Gmail account Mailspring will download, and POP3 isn’t involved at all — Mailspring only speaks IMAP, so the POP settings in Gmail have no effect on it. What you’re seeing is the way the initial sync works: Mailspring grabs the newest messages first so you can start working within a minute or two, then keeps walking backwards through each folder in the background. For a full Gmail account that can take many hours, and it only makes progress while Mailspring is open. There’s a “Syncing your mailbox…” indicator at the bottom of the sidebar you can click to see per-folder progress; until All Mail shows no percentage it’s still going. Two Gmail-side settings can stop it short, so check them if the number never moves: in Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP, “Folder size limits” should be set to “Do not limit the number of messages in an IMAP folder” (the 1,000-message option looks a lot like what you’re describing), and in Settings > Labels, “Show in IMAP” must be ticked for All Mail. If those are fine and progress still stalls after a day, Preferences > Accounts > Rebuild Cache… restarts the sync from scratch.
