How to remove the default "Mailspring" label from emails

I am having trouble removing this label that appears by default when we add a new email to Mailspring. It is called “Mailspring” and I can’t remove it. When I hit delete it just comes back. The same happens if I delete it directly from my e-mail provider, a while later it comes back.

Does anyone who has experienced this know how to solve it? I don’t want this label to be created.

That label is the home of Mailspring’s Snooze feature. IMAP has no notion of “hide this until Tuesday”, so Mailspring creates a Mailspring label with a Snoozed label inside it and moves snoozed conversations there — and it recreates the pair every time it syncs if they’re missing, which is why deleting it in Gmail only works for a few minutes. Two options depending on what you’re after:

  • You’d rather it didn’t sit at the top level of your label list: there’s no way to turn the folder off while Mailspring is running with that account, but you can choose where it lives. In Preferences > Folders, the Default Container Folder field at the top lets you nest it inside an existing top-level label instead (enter Work, say, and you get Work/Snoozed rather than Mailspring/Snoozed); restart Mailspring after changing it. When adding an IMAP account you can set the same thing on the setup form as “Custom Container Folder”.
  • You’ve stopped using Mailspring with that account: quit Mailspring (including the tray icon) or remove the account first, then delete the label in Gmail and it will stay gone.
