Images appearing inline on outgoing emails even though attached as files

Having some trouble sending images as file attachments:

Images attached to outgoing emails as files (not drag and dropped into place) are being “converted” into inline images at the end of the email where the “file attached” links appear.

The images appear as files until the email is actually sent, I can see the process of creating it as an inline image before the email disappears. I’ve tested this out a few times by sending emails to myself and the emails come through with images inline at the end of the email.

I tried attaching other files, pdf’s etc, along with the image files, but the images still arrive open and inline alongside the other file attachments at the end of the email.

Can’t find any threads with anyone having the same problem but hoping someone will explain that I’m just being an idiot and I just need to push a button somewhere.

This is intentional behavior when you drag and drop images into the composer — Mailspring treats dropped images as inline content (embedded in the email body). When you use the paperclip/attachment button to attach a file, images should stay as regular attachments. If you’re seeing images go inline even when using the attach button, that would be unexpected — let us know exactly how you’re attaching them. As a workaround, you can drag the inline image out of the body area if you want it to remain as an attachment, or hold Alt/Option when composing for plain-text mode which doesn’t support inline images.
