failed to install on chromebook, still got stucked on theinability to store my id. i tried with gemini help , all the optiosn possible but still nothing, very sad. please make an apk
Hi Nic-0las,
This is a known issue with Electron apps (not just Mailspring) running in Chrome OS’s Linux container (Crostini). The Linux environment doesn’t come with a keyring service pre-configured, which Mailspring needs to securely store your credentials.
Here’s what should fix it:
1. Install the required packages:
sudo apt install gnome-keyring libsecret-1-0
2. Start the keyring daemon (you’ll need to do this each time, or add it to your .bashrc):
eval $(gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=secrets)
export GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL
3. Launch Mailspring with the password store flag:
mailspring --password-store=gnome-libsecret
If that still doesn’t work, you can try the less secure but functional fallback:
mailspring --password-store=basic
This stores credentials with weaker encryption, but it will at least get you past the error.
To make the flag permanent, you can edit your .desktop file:
Exec=mailspring --password-store=gnome-libsecret %U
Unfortunately we can’t offer an Android/APK version — Mailspring is a desktop app that relies on a full Linux environment. But the steps above should get it working in your Chromebook’s Linux container.
Same here, have it on Ubuntu working beautifully and like it very much.
However after days of re-installs/updates/sudo’s/etc.and blood, sweat and frustration I give up, I simply can not get it running or be correctly installed… In the beginning for a very short while, but after re-entering nothing but ……….![]()

.
I have 4 different OS’s running and ofcourse do not want 4 different Mail-programs. However it now probably will come down to 3 different ones, or remove Mailspring from Ubuntu as well and try another program supporting 2 of the systems (other 2 systems running on Outlook)…
Hate to give in, but it really has taken away the energy to again
..
Bye and all the best !
