My inbox does not display all of my messages

I have been having an issue with Mailspring that I want to see if I can get worked out. My inbox will only show a few messages. I keep my inbox fairly clean but after a while it will default to only showing two or three messages at a time.

The temporary solution I have found that works is going into preferences and resetting the cache. This will display my entire inbox for a little while before the problem mentioned above repeats.

I feel like this is a simple setting that I am missing but I’m not sure what to look for.

Thanks for the help!

It’s not a setting you’re missing. An inbox that shrinks to a couple of messages until you reset the cache is the sync engine wrongly concluding that messages were removed from the server. We fixed the most common cause of that in 1.17.2 (some servers send bogus QRESYNC “vanished” responses, which made Mailspring unlink mail that was still on the server) and improved the handling of those responses again in 1.18.0, so if you’re still on a 2022-era build, updating is the first thing to try.

If it still happens on the current release, please grab the account’s sync log (Preferences > Accounts > select the account > Error Details…, or Developer > Open Mailsync Logs) around the time the messages disappear and post the lines mentioning “Unlinking” or “vanished”, plus your email provider — that’s enough for me to see which server behavior is tripping it. In the meantime, F5 (File > Sync New Mail Now) is a lighter-weight nudge than a full cache reset.
