How do I prevent Mailspring to delete a message when I replied to it? I sent a quick response to acknowledge the message and to say I would answer the questions after I had time to think about the answers. The message sent, then the original disappeared. I found it in trash, could not restore it to in box. I was able to archive it, but when I sent a 2nd reply, to someone else on the thread, it disappeared again.

Nothing in Mailspring is supposed to touch the original when you reply. The only thing it deletes after a send is your own draft, and even “Send and Archive” archives rather than trashes. The original landing in Trash means something is being mis-identified, and I’d like to track it down.
Two things to check: in Preferences > Folders, look at which folders are assigned as Drafts and Trash for this account (if Drafts points at the wrong folder, the “delete the draft” step after sending can hit the wrong place, details in Mailspring isn't showing the correct messages in my Sent or Drafts or Trash folder! — Mailspring Documentation). And if you can, reproduce it once more and grab the account’s log right after the send (Developer > Open Mailsync Logs, see Finding sync logs and error details — Mailspring Documentation) — the lines starting with -- Deleting remote draft and removeMessages will show exactly what was moved. Which provider is the account with (Gmail, Outlook, an IMAP host)? That narrows it a lot.
