It seems like my read receipts aren’t working! Sometimes I don’t get notified that the message was opened, when I know for a fact it was. What’s going on, and can I fix it?
Read Receipts/Open Tracking works by attaching a transparent 1x1 pixel image to the bottom of your email. When this image is loaded, then Mailspring deduces that the email was opened.
However, many privacy-conscious individuals prefer not to be tracked in this way, and so they disable automatic image loading. Some email services and clients even remove these “tracking pixels” automatically behind the scenes. As a result, read receipts only works about 60% of the time as of early 2021, and that number is going down all the time.
