When setting up an IMAP/SMTP account, I get this message:
“The SMTP server would not relay a message. You may need to authenticate. (SMTP) View Log”
How do I get past this? I have no problem using this account with Evolution, Geary, Thunderbird, etc.
(By the way, this is with the latest version of Mailspring, 1.10.3)
Can it be that no one else has a problem with this? It’s a show-stopper for me.

Even weirder: Mails send just fine on another device with same account. When I go into settings and check the smtp-server I get the same error.
Yeah, I had the same issue. The authentication failed when I tried to authenticate an existing account, after also having the error trying to add a different account. If you’re on Windows then my compiled code has been confirmed as a workaround for this issue. Waiting for the devs to tweak the mailsync code to fix this officially

For me a show stopper! The other mail addresses did not cause any problems (Outlook and GMail accounts).
…and not working here. I’ve just had to update my Virgin Media password and edited it in Mailspring but now it’s just not connecting with the "The SMTP server would not relay a message. You may need to authenticate. (SMTP)” error. I can view the SMTP log and see that the password has been accepted but connection finally fails with this:

This account worked fine with mailspring before.
Same issue for me. I added 4 email accounts, all from the same hoster. Everything worked fine.
But a couple of weeks later I tried adding a fifth account - one with a dot ‘(.’) in the user name and email address field.
The SMTP server would not relay a message. You may need to authenticate. (SMTP)

So what is the alternative (linux)? Thunderbird?
Same issues with infomaniak and PEC PosteItaliane (a certificated email accoun)… on arch: until two weeks ago, ten days at most, both were working without any problems.
As for vivaldi mail, a roundcube account at the office where I work and gmail, so far no problem
how long have you been using mailspring before? i’m just wondering if it’s worth waiting the fix or if it has often problems
Had this issue for a month now. Very strange that it hasn’t been fixed yet. It is sad, because I love Mailspring, but this simply is unacceptable.
