Yeah, I had the same issue. The authentication failed when I tried to authenticate an existing account, after also having the error trying to add a different account. If you’re on Windows then my compiled code has been confirmed as a workaround for this issue. Waiting for the devs to tweak the mailsync code to fix this officially

…and not working here. I’ve just had to update my Virgin Media password and edited it in Mailspring but now it’s just not connecting with the "The SMTP server would not relay a message. You may need to authenticate. (SMTP)” error. I can view the SMTP log and see that the password has been accepted but connection finally fails with this:
Same issue for me. I added 4 email accounts, all from the same hoster. Everything worked fine.
But a couple of weeks later I tried adding a fifth account - one with a dot ‘(.’) in the user name and email address field.
The SMTP server would not relay a message. You may need to authenticate. (SMTP)

Same issues with infomaniak and PEC PosteItaliane (a certificated email accoun)… on arch: until two weeks ago, ten days at most, both were working without any problems.
As for vivaldi mail, a roundcube account at the office where I work and gmail, so far no problem
