[SOLVED]Mailspring 1.17.1 can't connect to the network at all, /lib64/libcurl.so.4: no version information available (required by /usr/share/mailspring/resources/app.asar.unpacked/mailsync.bin)

Description

This issue has occurred since v1.17. I have no issue with the connection at all in v1.16. Launching Mailspring from the terminal shows 1 difference between v1.16 and v1.17.1. In v1.17.1, there’s a line complaining about libcurl.so.4:

/usr/share/mailspring/resources/app.asar.unpacked/mailsync.bin: /lib64/libcurl.so.4: no version information available (required by /usr/share/mailspring/resources/app.asar.unpacked/mailsync.bin)

I checked that my system already has libcurl.so.4 installed through the official openSUSE repo, libcurl4-8.18.0-1.1.x86_64.

ls /lib64/libcurl.so.* returns:

/lib64/libcurl.so.4 /lib64/libcurl.so.4.8.0

curl --version returns:

curl 8.18.0 (x86_64-suse-linux-gnu) libcurl/8.18.0 OpenSSL/3.5.3 zlib/1.3.1 brotli/1.2.0 zstd/1.5.7 libidn2/2.3.8 libpsl/0.21.5 libssh/0.11.3/openssl/zlib nghttp2/1.68.0 nghttp3/1.13.1 mit-krb5/1.22.1 OpenLDAP/2.6.10

To Reproduce…

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Download the installer (v1.17.1) from either the official website or the official GitHub repo.
  2. Install it.
  3. Make sure libcurl.so.4 is installed.

  4. Launching the app from the terminal.
  5. See the complain about `libcurl.so.4`. In the app, no new mails can be fetched, no new accounts can be added. The app can't connect to the internet at all.

Expected Behavior

The app can connect to the internet like it’s in v1.16.

Setup

  • OS and Version: openSUSE Tumbleweed
    • Installation Method: mailspring-1.17.1-0.1.x86_64.rpm
  • Mailspring Version: 1.17.1

Additional Context

There’s no issue at all in v1.16.

Wow thanks for reporting this, it’s really interesting the app can’t find curl if you have a compatible version installed. I’ll see if we can add OpenSuse Tumbleweed to our automated Linux cross platform tests on Github ( Move Windows dependencies to vkpkg for OpenSSL 3.6, latest libcurl, i… · Foundry376/Mailspring-Sync@3b963ed · GitHub ) and reproduce this there. :folded_hands:
