This happens to me too, but if I restart my computer it works. Maybe this is a clue to what’s wrong?

Has been regularly happening to me for the past 2-3 months too - especially when I leave Mailspring running for longer periods of time (overnight is usually enough).

Restarting Mailspring (not the computer) clears the problem and I can re-send the e-mail from draft afterwards.

Mailspring snap on Ubuntu 20.10
mailspring 1.8.0 498 latest/stable foundry376✓ -

I’m also on linux but using the compiled version on Manjaro. It’s not happening to Aquamail on my phone so I know it’s not a “third party email client” issue with gmail. Seem’s specific to Mailspring and popped up after months of working on the SAME version. I also tried the 1.8.1 Mailspring Libre with identical results/issues. It’s happening often enough that I’ve started opening the webui again and have considered abandoning mailspring.

Linux is not windows. The only time you should HAVE to reboot linux is when upgrading kernels. I’ve had mine going for weeks without reboots.

Mailspring runs in the background when the app is closed. Rather than figuring out which processes to kill, I restarted the computer. Then it worked. It’s a Mailspring problem.

this has started happening to me as well … haven’t been able to send mail from mailspring for 2 days now … run ubuntu 18.04 …

so killing mailspring is the solution?

I guess I’ll give it a go … but this is pretty annoying

killing mailspring process has worked …
