The Problem
When viewing an opened email, pressing the Mouse X Button 1 (the browser-style Back button available on many mice) does nothing. Users naturally expect this button to navigate back to the message list, just as it does in web browsers and many desktop applications.
Proposed Solution
Add support for the Mouse X Button 1 (Back) to navigate from an opened email back to the inbox or previous message list view. This would make navigation faster and improve usability for users with multi-button mice.
Alternative Solutions
As an alternative, allow users to customize mouse button actions through keyboard shortcut or input settings, so the Back mouse button can be mapped to the “Back” navigation action.
Context
Many desktop applications and web browsers support the Back button on modern mice for navigation. Supporting this behavior in Mailspring would provide a more intuitive experience and reduce the need to move the cursor to the Back button in the interface or use keyboard shortcuts.
