Please consider to add this feature :slightly_smiling_face: I really don’t like conversation view

Thanks for giving us a status!

Like with many others, the lack of this feature is holding me back from using this otherwise fine client for my regular e-mail. I often have threads that stretch over years (for instance, 2023, 2024, 2025,…) but which I want to move to folders not as entire threads, but segmented and stored to years (part in 2023, part in 2024,…). Or there are messages in a thrread which I want to delete, but not the entire thread.

So this is (for me at least) a really serious lack. It means that I cannot use only Mailspring but need to now and then also go to the webmailer (yuck! ugly!) or use another client.

Just discovered Mailspring and I love it! Then I found out about threaded view only, and my heart broke. Such a shame, it seems perfect for me otherwise. But the ability to handle emails individually in threads/conversations is vital.
Personally I can’t understand why anyone would want threaded views, but to each their own. Please make it an option.

Please make threading optional.
I need my mails separately

+1 for the option to disable threaded conversation views.
Threaded views were awful in 2021, and they’re still awful in 2025.

Just going to put my $0.02 in. I like threaded conversation view, but not everyone does as we see here. Over the desktop mail clients I use, they do have an option to enable disabled threaded/conversation view. This includes Outlook, Evolution, and Thunderbird. Hopefully someone have the bandwidth and time in the future to implement this feature so people have a choice in how their emails are grouped.

I’ve switched to Mailspring recently and I was really surprised by not finding a setting to disable the threading/conversation view. The more I’m surprised now to see that this topic has been here for 4 years already, it has the most votes still not implemented :frowning:
But I really hope someone will find the time for implementing this feature.

Thanks for your work regardless the absence of this feature, I bought the license anyway to support the project.

Given that even Google and all other clients enable a date view and to disable conversations (they would be great if they were not all over the place, with some old ones placed above and others below), I can’t see how this is not getting votes.

I also saw something weird. When I landed on the page, it had 140 votes. When I voted, a few seconds later, it went down to 138 votes! LIterally, seconds later. Are they asking us to believe people are coming back to remove their vote on a feature that causes so much annoyance?

It’s a great client, glad it’s free, but this is a no brainer!

Please fix! And people, please vote here:

Would be great to have this optional. Especially when several people are in the conversation it is neaely impossible to keep track…

I agree - this prevents me from productive use. Would it help the developers if we create a sponsoring for this feature? I am willing to contribute.

It’s a restriction. It’s not good to irritate your customers.

Please, Mailspring, make threading optional. I hate threading. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. I really hate it. I want to tell you that I hate it.

I want to be able to treat individual messages individually. I want to be able to file old individual messages away according to date or some other criterion, not according to thread. For me, it is far more important to archive messages according to the year in which I received them than according to thread when, for instance, a thread begins in November 2024 and carries on till March 2025.

In other mail clients, I switch on threading only temporarily, because it can be useful for finding old messages within a certain context (and once I have found them, I immediately switch threading off).

If you make threading optional and freely switchable (as in every other mail client that I know) – then I will most gladly use Mailspring and uninstall all the other clients, because everything else about this client is beautiful. As it is now, I use Mailspring only as a secondary, additional client for email accounts which I also access in Thunderbird (in which I do my serious work) or Evolution – with a bit of sadness, because otherwise I really, really like Mailspring and want it to thrive!

I fully understand, and I’m with you! I’m waiting for this feature to become optional – until then, Mailspring regrettably will be little more than a plaything for my use.

Please make it optional. I hate it.

Actually, seeing as how this has been an issue for some time now and Mailspring doesn’t seem to be taking it seriously, I’ll be looking for a different email client.

It feels like the votes are not accurate. They never really go up.
On the plus side: Thunderbird is beeing improved and their Exchange support is almost working in 141.0.
With improvements every couple of days and announced maturity in 142
