is there a way to make this app as a default email to documents can be sent thru it via adobe and ms word. The setting options are all changed to mailsprings but it does not work and by default ms outlook remains
What you’ve set up is right, and it’s working for what it covers: Preferences > General > “Use Mailspring as default mail client” plus Windows Settings > Apps > Default apps makes Mailspring open mailto: links from browsers and other apps (Choose Mailspring as the default mail client on Windows — Mailspring Documentation). But Word’s “Send as attachment” and Acrobat’s “Send file” don’t use that setting - they use Windows’ MAPI interface, which Mailspring doesn’t implement, so Outlook keeps grabbing those. That’s a real gap on our side, not a mis-setting on yours.
A decent workaround: Mailspring opens a new draft with any files you pass it, so add a “Send to” shortcut. Press Win+R, run shell:sendto, and create a shortcut there pointing at %LocalAppData%\Mailspring\Mailspring.exe. Then save the document, right-click it in Explorer, and choose Send to > Mailspring - the draft opens with the file attached. Dragging a file into a draft works as well.
